About the Yakut blacksmith term suokhapchy

the aim of this study is a semantic and etymological analysis of the term suokhapchy, which is used in the blacksmithing of the Sakha people. Our objective is to: 1. Briefly review the religious beliefs of the Sakha people related to blacksmithing. In the heroic epic olonkho and in Sakha beliefs, Kydai Bakhsy is the patron and leader of blacksmiths. He is considered the patron of blacksmithing and the creator spirit of great blacksmiths and shamans. His image carries ambivalent connotations, possessing a dual nature of good and evil. He is a creative spirit, but at the same time, he has a demonic origin. Blacksmiths enjoyed special honor and respect in society. Their craft was considered sacred and had deep mythological and ritual roots. Blacksmiths were perceived as bearers of higher knowledge and supernatural powers, capable of resisting evil spirits. Like shamans, whose gifts were also passed down through generations, blacksmiths had a strong connection with the other world. 2. Define the term ‘suokhapchy’. Analyze the semantics and etymology of the term ‘suokhapchy’ (meaning "nail-making"). In traditional Yakut beliefs, blacksmithing tools, including suokhapchy, had powerful protective powers. They were used as amulets against evil spirits, and in particular, against shamans. This research may have practical applications in documenting and preserving unique linguistic and ethnographic data related to blacksmithing and beliefs that may disappear over time. The study can also serve as material for linguists studying the development of language, the origin and evolution of terminology in a specific professional field, as well as the influence of religious worldview on the formation of vocabulary.
