Publication Ethics
Ethical principles and responsibilities of the editors:
The editorial team of the scientific journal “DEMIS. Demographic Research / DEMIS. Demograficheskie Issledovaniya” acts on the basis of the Chapter 70 “Copyright” of the Civil Code of the Russian Federation, as well as ethical principles established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), and generally accepted ethical principles for the publication of scientific materials. Violations of copyright and moral standards are ethically unacceptable and can hinder the development of scientific knowledge, undermining the credibility of demography as a science.
The editorial team presumes that authors and reviewers are familiar with the requirements.
The editorial team and the editorial board make decisions on publication or rejection of the materials based solely on its professional level and quality, regardless of race, gender, nationality, citizenship, religious, ideological, or political position of the author.
When deciding on the publication of an article, the editors of the journal are guided by the reliability of the data presented in the paper, as well as the scientific significance and scientific novelty of the work.
The editors ensure that there are no conflicts of interest between the parties to double-blind peer review. The author or co-author of the peer-reviewed work, a member of the scientific team which includes the authors of the peer-reviewed work, a repeated co-author of any of them, a supervisor (scientific consultant) of any of the authors who seek a scientific degree cannot act as reviewers.
Ethical principles of the authors:
Authors do not submit for publication in the journal their previously published works, as well as works already proposed for publication in other journals.
Authors should indicate the contribution of all persons whose works formed the basis of the study. Persons who did not participate in the study should not be listed as co-authors.
In the manuscript, the authors present the results of an original scientific research. For scientific works that in one way or another influenced the course of the study, bibliographic references should be provided. Borrowed fragments or statements are drawn up according to the rules of citation, indicating the author and the source. Unformatted citations and arrogation of rights to the results of other people’s research are unacceptable.
Ethical principles of the reviewers:
The reviewer is obliged to give an objective and reasoned assessment of the presented research results. Personal criticism of the author is unacceptable.
The reviewer is to be an expert in the subdisciplinary field within which the research presented in the peer-reviewed manuscript was conducted.
Each submitted manuscript receives feedback from two reviewers.
A member of a long-term scientific team, which includes the authors of the reviewed work, as well as a repeated co-author of any of them cannot be a reviewer.
The scientific adviser (scientific consultant) of any of the authors applying for a scientific degree cannot be a reviewer.
As the result of considering an article, the reviewer makes a conclusion about the possibility of its publication – in the presented form, with revision, after fundamental revision (with re-examination) or its rejection. This conclusion is approved by the editorial board of the journal.
