The law of the cumulative effect of victimogenesis

Abstract

victimhood as a systemic personality trait presents a serious problem for psychological well-being and social adaptation. Despite numerous studies, there is a lack of integrative models explaining the dynamics of victimhood formation through the interaction of psychological and psychophysiological factors. Objective: Empirical verification of the Law of the Cumulative Effect of Victimogenesis, which describes the formation of victimhood as a cumulative process of interaction between traumatic experience and personal resources. Methodology and Methods: A longitudinal study (N=98) was conducted using a complex of psychological and psychophysiological methods. These included in-depth interviewing, psychophysiological assessment using a polygraph, and a battery of tests to assess psychological resilience resources. Results: It was revealed that the cumulative effect model explains 67% of the variance in victimhood levels. It was established that the depletion of psychological resilience resources mediates 57.5% of the effect of trauma on victimhood. Significant differences were found between groups with high and low victimhood across all components of the model. Conclusions: The obtained data confirm that victimhood is formed as a dynamic process of systemic maladaptation, where the cumulative interaction of traumatic experience, psychophysiological reactivity, and resilience resources plays a critical role. The model allows for predicting the level of victimhood and identifying targets for preventive intervention.
