Abstract
Accentuation plays the leading role in the organization of communicative demonstrativeness, highlightingand transmitting meaningful information about the speaker. The purpose of the study is to identify and describe theproperties and means actualizing accentuation. The interdisciplinary approach and the method of psycholinguisticanalysis of the communicants’ utterances are used. The study shows that the accentuation used to highlight a significantmessage is realized by the combination of emphasis and performance. It is established that the performance is aprocedural act of its author that takes place according to his own scenario with the involvement of the addressee usingan audio-visual perception channel that enhances the psychological impact on the addressee. The linguistic means ofperformance actualization are revealed: nonverbal iconic signs, spectacular appearance of the speaker, speechmanipulation strategies, speech paradox technique, hyperbolic tropes, antithesis, amplifying particles, demonstration ofpositive and negative feelings by prosodic means, repeated use of the pronoun “I”. The property of emphasis is describedto focus the addressee’s attention on the characteristics of the speaker’s personality in order to receive recognition, sympathy, praise or support. The means of expressing emphasis include: lexical repetition, tropes, emotional adverbs, deformed phraseological units, discursive words (lexical means), pausing, chanted speech, high timbre of voice (prosodic means). The results obtained can be used in the course of semiotics and psycholinguistics.
