Abstract
the relevance of the article is due to the current significant differentiation of the effectiveness of regional investment activities, which determines the need to develop an independent research program through which it is possible to identify problems and propose solutions to improve the effectiveness of the regional investment sphere. This study is devoted to the formation of a theoretical basis for studying these issues, while regional and spatial theories have the highest theoretical and methodological potential. The purpose of the work is to clarify the epistemological potential of studying investment activities localized in the region through the prism of theories of regional and spatial economics. Methods: the work used a set of methods of scientific knowledge, in particular, analysis, synthesis, comparison, to determine the relevance of the theory to the object of research. A conceptual analysis of the theoretical constructions of regional and spatial economics made it possible to identify and clarify the cognitive capabilities of the theories used to study and interpret regional investment activities. The significance of the work lies in the refinement of theoretical approaches to the study of regional investment activities, by identifying the potential of the methodology and methodological tools of specific theories in order to clarify its interpretation and characteristics. Conclusions: an approach to the interpretation of regional investment activities through the prism of cumulative theories of spatial development is formulated.
