Network effects in the academic community and their role in reducing the prevalence of deviant behavior

in the article, the academic community is presented as a network phenomenon with characteristics of synergetic and relational rents, as well as club benefits. The importance of network effects in the modern academic community is increasing, therefore, there is a need to study the regulatory potential of network effects and their limitations in the context of the institutional environment. The purpose of the study is to determine the essence of network effects and identify their impact on reducing the prevalence of deviant behavior in the field of science and higher education. Methods: the main method is a meaningful analysis of research that forms the theoretical basis of this work, directly or indirectly, in order to systematize network effects in the academic community and determine their role in reducing the prevalence of deviant behavior. Conclusions: based on a meaningful analysis of existing research, the academic community can be considered as a network in which network mechanisms contribute to the conventionalization of norms of behavior and strengthen social ties, which reduces the frequency of deviant manifestations. The systematization of the network effects identified in science in the academic community, which can be both positive and negative, has been carried out. The limitations of network effects research are due to institutional instability, which requires further study.
