It was founded in 1925 as the central publication in Moscow. The organizer, creator and first editor-in-chief was Professor Alexey Grigoryevich Doyarenko. In the 30s, the issue of the journal was discontinued, and resumed in 2004 in the Lower Volga Research Institute of Agriculture. After the reorganization in 2016, the journal was transferred to the Federal Scientific Centre of Agroecology of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The editors-in-chief were Pleskachev Y.N., Belyakov A.M., Solonkin A.V. The current editor is Kulik K.N.
