The journal «History: Facts and Symbols» was established in I.A. Bunin’s Yelets State University as a continuation of the journal «Russia: West and East: Archeology. History. Philosophy. Law». Initially it was mainly dedicated to the history of everyday life and historical anthropology. In 2017 the journal significantly enlarged its editorial team and separated out its board. The number of regular columns was also increased. Several large conferences were held under the aegis of the journal. The same year it entered into the list of print publications of State Commission for Academic Degrees and Titles, and into ERIH PLUS (the European Reference Index for the Humanities). Since 2016 up till 2020 the magazine capacity grew from 100 to 190 pages with papers in English. The regular section of cultural history as well as historical archive was enlarged. Since 2019 the journal has become a co-organiser of all-Russian conference “At the steppe frontier: the Tsarsdom of Moscovy and the nomad world in XVI-XVII c.” Academic works done with the support of different science funds are regularly published in the journal.
