Key Lexemes of Guillaume Apollinaire’s Metapoetic Discourse and Their Translation into Russian

The subject of this study is the metapoetic discourse of Guillaume Apollinaire, represented both in his poetic works and in his manifestos. The object of the study is the key lexemes that reflect the author's artistic thinking, aesthetic principles, and his concept of poetry as a means of understanding reality. The author closely examines such aspects as the structural organization of metapoetic utterance and the lexical representation of the notions of “art,” “novelty,” “reality,” “nature,” and “inspiration.” Special attention is given to the translation of these lexemes into Russian within the context of poetic text. The poem Le Pont Mirabeau and its Russian translation by Irina Kuznetsova are used as illustrative material. Comparative analysis of the original and translated versions reveals the challenges involved in transferring Apollinaire’s metapoetics and allows us to trace the translator’s strategy in conveying key semantic and stylistic elements of the poet’s work. Thus, the study focuses on identifying the linguistic means that shape metapoetic discourse and assessing the effectiveness of their equivalents in Russian. The research methodology includes contextual, componential, and contrastive analysis, as well as elements of discourse analysis and linguistic-stylistic description of the poetic text in both languages. The scientific novelty lies in the complex linguistic approach to analyzing Apollinaire’s metapoetic lexemes and examining their translational transformations in Russian. The main findings of the research are as follows: (1) the lexical system of Apollinaire’s metapoetics is structured around dominant concepts that unify philosophical and aesthetic categories; (2) the translation of these lexemes into Russian involves both preservation of core semantics and some semantic shifts due to poetic structure and translator interpretation; (3) the analysis of the translation uncovers typical strategies of compensating for the original imagery, which is crucial for further studies in poetic translation. The author’s specific contribution lies in identifying the lexical-semantic and pragmatic parameters of metapoetic discourse in the interlingual context.
