WESTERN SIBERIA SALT INDUSTRY IN WORKS OF G.F. MILLER AND HIS FOLLOWERS IN 18 TH CENTURY
Аннотация
Historical studies of Western Siberia salt industry began in the 18 th century. Different facts connected with the salt production and supply firstly appeared in the works of G.F. Miller and later in the books of I.E. Fisher and M.D. Chulkov. The article considers the issues raised by the scientists and defines the succession level in the Russian-language publications of the 18 th and 20 th centuries.

FOREIGN POLICY OF NICHOLAS I IN ASSESSMENTS OF DOMESTIC CONSERVATIVES OF MID-XIX TH CENTURY
Аннотация
The article analyses Russian conservatives’ various assessments of the mid-XIX th century foreign policy during the reign of Nicholas I. The author also examines the problem of the perception of Nicholas I’s personality and work in the views of conservative thinkers in Russia due to the changes in the foreign policy of the country caused by the transformation of Russia’s role in the international arena.

USSR ETHNIC POLICY IN PRE-WAR PERIOD (1938-1941)
Аннотация
In the article the author analyses the main aspects of the Soviet ethnic policy course during the period preceding the Great Patriotic War (1938-1941): strengthening of the Russian ethnic factor, formation of the ‘Soviet patriotism’concept, propaganda of ‘the friendship of peoples’, as well as the conjugation of the new directions of the ethnic policy and ‘the proletarian internationalism’. The author shows that the ethnic policy implemented during the mentioned period laid the basis for moral mobilizing of the Soviet people during the war, though this policy was not brought to the conclusion.

KHAZAR MISSION OF CONSTANTINE THE PHILOSOPHER: ON POSSIBILITY OF CYRIL AND METHODIUS’ PREACHING AMONG EAST SLAVS
Аннотация
In Russian and foreign historiography there is often raised the question of the timing of Christianity adoption by Eastern Slavs and the possible missionary activity of Cyril and Methodius among Eastern Slavs. The author collected and analysed available evidence of preaching of brothers from Salonika, and convincingly showed that the Christianization of Rus could have happened in 861, during their so-called «Khazar mission».

«IT IS THE WEST WHO TAUGHT IT TO US»: FORMATION OF RUSSIAN ENCYCLOPEDIA STUDIES IN TSARIST RUSSIA
Аннотация
The article analyses main stages in the development of Russian national encyclopedias. The way to first Russian encyclopedias coincided with the development of Russian intellectual elite and struggle with foreign influence and spirit within Russian academia. First Russian encyclopedias tried to copy the structure and the content of the famous foreign encyclopedias such as British Britannica, German Brockhaus and French Encyclopedie. First Russian national Brockhaus-Efron encyclopedia was published at the end of the 19 th century and immediately became the national bestseller.

The article analyzes the substance of the notions “competence” and “competency”. The authors draw the conclusion that professional competence is a multifactorial phenomenon. Great role in its formation is played by value guidelines, personal characteristics as well as integrative factors of culture. The article gives the assessment of the place, role and significance of the course of History of Russia in the development of students’ general cultural competences. This article is devoted to General M. G. Chernyaev, whose leadership talent and organizing skills played an important role in annexation of Turkestan to Russia. The problem of such a personality appearance in certain conditions is considered on the basis of Сhernyaev's personal files. The author comes to the conclusion that Сhernyaev's merits can be explained not only by character features, but also by specificity of a certain historical setting.

GUINEAN-SOVIET RELATIONS IN THE 1 ST REPUBLIC PERIOD (1958-1984)
Аннотация
The article is devoted to the history of the Guinean-Soviet relations in the period of Ahmed Secou Toure’s presidency. Guinea and the USSR fought for Africa’s liberation from colonialism and imperialism, and the Guinean leader was an initiator of the integration processes in Africa. The author proves that the character of the bilateral relations was under strong influence of the Guinean leader’s controversial personality as well as the attempts to balance between the capitalist and socialist poles in the Cold War. As a result Guinea became estranged from the Soviet Union and restored the relationships with its former parent state, France, and other Western countries.
