Author Guidelines

Materials are submitted through the magazine's website http://journal.vniisubtrop.ru/form/

Due to the fact that the editorial board of the journal Subtropical and Ornamental Gardening verifies the material using the Anti-Plagiarism system and articles with at least 70% originality are allowed to be published, the authors must make sure that the completely original work is presented before submitting the material.

The editorial board accepts for publication manuscripts in Russian and English, corresponding to the thematic areas of the journal, previously unpublished, containing new theoretical and practical scientific data. Experimental articles (data for at least 2-3 years), monitoring studies (data for one year) and review and analytical articles are accepted. The experimental data in the articles should be mathematically processed using accepted criteria for the reliability of the results obtained.

The text of the article is served with an extension .doc or .docx. The font is Times New Roman, 12 pt, without hyphenation, the line spacing is single, the text is aligned in width. Margins of the page: left – 3 cm, the rest – 2 cm. The volume of experimental articles is from 10 to 15 pages, and review articles are from 20 to 40 pages.

Construction of the manuscript:

  1. The Universal Decimal Classification (UDC) index is given on the first page in the upper-left corner.
  2. The title of the article (in Russian and English). No more than 10 words. It is printed in capital letters in straight bold font without underscores. Latin names of research objects in the title of the article should be written without abbreviations, in compliance with generally accepted rules of taxonomic nomenclature.
  3. Surname(s) and initials of the author(s) (in Russian and English). To mark in Arabic numerals the correspondence of the authors' surnames to the institutions in which they work.
  4. The place of work of the author(s) (in Russian and English), indicating the city and country. The name of the organization is given without departmental affiliation (for example, WITHOUT a Federal State Budgetary Institution of Science).
  5. E-mail address(s).
  6. Abstract (summary) of 200-250 words (in Russian and English). The section should not start by repeating the title of the article! It is necessary to highlight the purpose of the study, methods, results with quantitative data, and clearly formulate conclusions. Splitting into paragraphs is not allowed!
  7. Keywords – 6-10 (in Russian and English).
  8. Main text (including figures, tables, formulas).
  9. Acknowledgements (if necessary; this section provides information on financial support for work carried out under the program, project).
  10. Financing of the work (the cipher of the state assignment and/or the number of the grant within which the research was carried out is indicated).
  11. References: at least 20 sources for experimental articles and no more than 40 sources for review articles.

Information about the authors is provided at the end of the article.:

Last name, First name, Patronymic (in full);

position, academic degree;

place of work;

phone (preferably mobile, for quick communication with the author);

the email address.

When designing articles, we recommend that the author(s) state the current state of the issue, logically justify the conduct of this study, show the relevance and novelty, describe the purpose and methods of research, and discuss the results obtained.

The title of the article should be brief and fully reflect the content of the work.

The main text of experimental articles should be structured, and the following sections are recommended: Introduction; Objects and methods of research; Results and discussion; Conclusions; References. Theoretical, review, and problem articles may have an arbitrary structure, but they must contain a summary. The titles of the sections in such articles are determined by the author.

The "Introduction" section is the part that provides a brief overview of the materials (publications) related to the problem being solved and substantiates the relevance of the research. It is necessary to clearly formulate the purpose of the research.

Section "Objects and methods of research":

- description of experimental work – the part that contains information about the object of the study, the sequence of operations during the experiment, the devices and reagents used. When mentioning devices and equipment, the name of the company is indicated in the original language and the country (in parentheses). If the method is little known or significantly modified, in addition to a link to the relevant publication, give a brief description of it.;

- description of theoretical research – the part in which the tasks are set, the assumptions and approximations made are indicated, the conclusion and solution of the basic equations are given. The section should not be overloaded with intermediate calculations and descriptions of well-known methods (for example, methods for numerical solution of equations, if they do not contain an element of novelty introduced by the authors).;

- description of the review studies – the part in which the algorithm for finding sources for the review should be described in detail. What search databases were used (Scopus, Web of Science, Elibrary databases; bibliographies of article lists, reviews of social networks, conferences), what types of publications (Article, Review, Conference Paper, Book, etc.), what sources (Journal, Book, Conference Proceeding, Report, etc.) and beyond what period was selected, and what search strategy was used.

It is recommended to select sources from electronic databases (Scopus, Web of Science, Elibrary), and use information search in journals on the subject under study. It is necessary to specify which sources were analyzed and why they were analyzed.

The section "Results and their discussion" is a part containing a brief description of the experimental data obtained. The presentation of the results should consist in identifying the discovered patterns, and not in a mechanical retelling of the contents of tables and graphs. It is recommended to present the results in the past tense. The discussion should not repeat the results of the study. At the end of the section, it is recommended to formulate the main conclusion containing the answer to the question posed in the "Introduction" section.

Tables, illustrations, and captions are placed in the text of the article when they are first mentioned. However, you should not use the "text wrapping" option.

Drawings and graphs should be executed clearly and clearly. Photos and graphs are presented as separate files in TIFF, JPEG, and BMP format with a resolution of at least 300 dpi; the decision to publish color photos will be made by the editors.

Each table must have an ordinal number and a title reflecting the contents of the table.

Mathematical formulas and equations are typed in MS WinWord editors (version 6.0 and higher) or MathType. The equations are located in the center of the line and are numbered with Arabic numerals in parentheses in the order they are mentioned in the text. The equation numbers are aligned to the right edge of the line. The equations are separated from the text at the top and bottom by one empty line. When writing multiple equations, they are also separated by an empty line.

When mentioning species of plants, animals, fungi, and microorganisms, it is necessary to give their names according to modern nomenclature (see http://www.theplantlist .org; https://fauna-eu.org; http://www.indexfungorum.org): binary species – in italics (Ríbes nígrum), taxa of higher rank – in straight font (Ríbes). At the first mention in the text, generic and specific names are given without abbreviations, further in the text the generic name is indicated by one uppercase (first) letter, and the specific name is indicated in full (R. nígrum).

The names and symbols of genes are typed in italics, and the names of their products are capitalized in a straight font. For example: fos, c-myc, ATM genes; Fos, c-Myc, ATM proteins. The names of phages and viruses are written in Latin transcription in a straight font (RBDV, ArMV).

Generally accepted abbreviations and abbreviations should be used or provided additionally in the text. It is recommended to list all physical dimensions in the international SI system.

The "Conclusions" section. Summary of the main research results.

In the text of the article, it is necessary to make references to literature in numbers in square brackets. The list of references is given in alphabetical order after the text of the article. The items are numbered. The links are given in the original language and are duplicated in English. First, there are Cyrillic sources (Russian, Serbian, Ukrainian, etc.), then Latin (English, French, etc.). The description rules are the same for all sources, domestic and foreign. All sources published later than 2000 include the ISBN, ISSN, or doi (if any).

It is NOT RECOMMENDED to use more than three online sources, as well as literature that has been published for more than 5 years.

The list of references DOES NOT INCLUDE unpublished works, textbooks, teaching aids and abstracts of conference materials.

IT is NOT RECOMMENDED to refer to publications that are inaccessible to most readers (departmental publications and instructions, statistical reports, government documents (government resolutions, laws, etc.), articles in socio-political newspapers and magazines, GOST standards, technical specifications). This information is placed in parentheses in the text: (GOST 32573-2013. Interstate Standard Black tea, 2013); (Federal Law No. 127-FZ "On Science and State Scientific and Technical Policy", 1996); (RF Patent for Invention No. 2563929, 2015); (United States patent US 20020103498, 2002).

Self-citation should be well-founded and correspond to the subject and objectives of scientific work. According to the ethics of scientific publications, the degree of self-citation should not be less than 10% and not exceed 30%.

At least 80% of the sources from the list of references should be published in periodicals within the last ten years.

At least 50% of sources must be indexed in the Scopus and Web of Science databases. Publications from leading scientific journals must be cited. The composition of the citation should reflect the real contribution of representatives of different countries to the study of the problem.
