The periodical "Pis'mennye pamiatniki Vostoka" is an international peer-reviewed journal, which is focused on the study of written legacy of Asia. From 1970 till 1987, it was published annually by the Institute of Oriental Manuscripts, Russian Academy of Sciences. In 2004, the IOM, RAS resumed "Pis'mennye pamiatniki Vostoka" as an academic journal; in 2015 the English version of the journal appeared; since 2016 it has been published quarterly.
The main direction of the journal is the study of the manuscripts, early printed editions and archival heritage of the peoples of the Orient, as well as of a wide range of problems in history, philology, source study, historiography, codicology, palaeography, epigraphy, textology.
The main topics of the journal are represented by the following headings: "Publications", "Research", "Book Culture", "Collections and Archives", "Restoration and Keeping", "Academic Life", "Reviews". The journal publishes translations of the written monuments of the Orient from the world's manuscript collections, libraries, archives, and museums, as well as various research articles, based on written sources, studying history, literature, religions and culture of the Orient. The Editorial Board accepts articles on the problems of Oriental textology, written monuments, manuscript collections and repositories, problems of manuscript preservation and restoration. Notes on the current academic life events and activity of institutions studying written monuments of the Orient, conferences, research plans, and reviews are also accepted.
The edition is aimed for Orientalists and specialists in various fields of the Oriental studies.

The reviewing procedure of the articles sent to the Editorial Board of the journal “Pis'mennye pamiatniki Vostoka” (approved by decision of the Academic Council of the Institute of Oriental Manuscripts, Russian Academy of Sciences, on December 27, 2010).
- Manuscripts of articles received by the Editorial Board of the journal "Pis'mennye pamiatniki Vostoka" are reviewed by the Editor-in-Chief, the Vice-Editor-in-Chief, or by the Executive Secretary for their compliance with the subject of the journal and editorial requirements for guidelines.
- Manuscripts of the articles received by the Editorial Office are to be registered by the Executive Secretary and sent to a reviewer (or two reviewers, if needed). All reviewers are recognized experts on the subject of the peer-reviewed materials and have publications on the subject of the peer-reviewed article over the past 3 years. The reviewer is selected by members of the Editorial Board and the Editor-in-Chief. The reviews are kept in the Editorial Board for 5 year.
- Reviewers are notified that the manuscripts sent to them are the property of the authors and are not subject to distribution. Reviewers are not allowed to make copies of articles for their own needs. The identity of the reviewer is confidential.
- Reviews of manuscripts are provided by the editors to the authors of the manuscripts upon their written request, without a signature and without indicating the name, position and affiliation of the reviewer.
- The Editorial Board must send copies of the reviews to the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation upon receiving the according request.
- If the review points out the necessity of article revision, the article is sent to the author for revision. In this case, the date of returning the revised article to the Editorial Board is considered to be the date of the article submission.
- An article sent to the author for revision must be returned in its revised version in terms set by the Editorial Board. The revised version must be accompanied by a letter from the author containing answers to all critical remarks and explaining all revisions made in the article.
- If the article was considerably revised by the author according to the reviewer’s recommendations, it is sent for the second review to the same reviewer who wrote critical remarks and recommendations.
- The Editorial Board keeps the right to reject an article if an author refuses to consider the Board’s recommendations.
- If there are negative article reviews from two different reviewers, or one negative review on the edited version of an article, an article is rejected by the Editorial Board.
- In case of the article rejection, the Editorial Office sends an author a motivated rejection letter.
- The Executive Secretary informs an author regarding the decision made.
- The maximum review period from the date of receipt of the manuscript in the editorial office is 2 months.
- The original article manuscripts are kept in the Editorial Office for three years starting from the date of the article submission to the Office.

The journal is published with a frequency of 4 issues per year.
Política de Acesso Livre
The publications in the Journal are available to all interested from the moment of publication. So, this journal provides immediate Gold Open Access (in accordance with Budapest Open Access Initiative) to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge. Also the editorial board belives that it provides free public access to the results of research and contributes to the advancement of science and medicine.
Free Full-text access to all articles can be observed via several websites (www.journals.eco-vector.com/2313-8726, www.elibrary.ru). All accepted articles publish with the Creative Commons International license (CC BY) for more freely distribution and usage worlwide.
Arquivamento
The journal uses the PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN) to digitally preserve all the published articles. The PKP PN is a part of LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) program offers decentralized and distributed preservation, seamless perpetual access, and preservation of the authentic original version of the content.
Also, the journal makes full-text archives on the Russian Science Electronic Library (http://elibrary.ru/) platform.
Publishing Ethics
The journal “Pis'mennye pamiatniki Vostoka” (PPV) is a peer reviewed international periodical committed to maintain the highest standards of publication ethics. In order to ensure the outcome of providing our readers with a high quality academic journal, we are guided by the following principles.
The editors based on the validation of the work in question, its importance to researchers and readers and opinion of the reviewers, are responsible for deciding if a submitted to PPV manuscript should be published. In evaluating the submitted works, the editors should limit themselves only to the intellectual content (importance, originality, study’s validity, clarity) and its relevance to the journal’s scope. The editors follow the rule of a double-blinded review of all submitted manuscripts by at least two reviewers who are experts in the field. They will strive to prevent any potential conflict of interests between the author and editorial and review personnel. Editors also ensure that all the information related to submitted manuscript is kept as confidential before publishing, and do not use the results obtained in the manuscript.
The reviewers are responsible for making decisions concerning a submitted manuscript. They evaluate manuscripts based on content without regard to ethnic origin, gender, citizenship, religious belief or political philosophy of the authors. The reviewers must ensure that all the information related to submitted manuscripts is confidential and must not use the information obtained through peer review for personal advantage. They must evaluate the submitted works objectively, as well as present their opinion on the works in a clear way in the review form. The reviewers should not consider manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest with any of the authors or institutions connected to the papers. A reviewer who is unable to deliver a prompt review or feels unqualified to review a submitted manuscript should notify the Editor-in-Chief and excuse himself from the review process.
The authors should warrant that the submitted manuscript is their own, original work, which has been neither published previously, nor is currently considered for publication elsewhere. Submitting the same manuscript to more than one journal concurrently constitutes unethical publishing behavior and is unacceptable. When the authors use other materials, the sources (including the Internet) should be appropriately cited and referenced. Any attempt of plagiarism should be followed by the rejection of the submitted manuscript. Authors are also responsible for language editing before submitting the article. All authors should disclose financial or other conflict of interest that might influence the results or interpretation of their manuscript (financial support for the project should be disclosed). The corresponding author should ensure that there is a full consensus of all co-authors in approving the final version of the paper and its submission for publication. When an author discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in his/her own published work, it is the author’s obligation to notify promptly the journal editor and cooperate with the editor to retract or correct the paper.
