Hydraulic Resistance of a Helially Corrugated Metal Pipe Culvert

Altunin V., Chernykh O.

Аннотация

Results are presented of experimental hydraulic studies of a model of a helically corrugated metal pipe culvert. Hydraulic resistance values are considered for water moving under free-flow and surcharged conditions. The influence of pipe slope and pipe filling on the roughness coefficient under free-flow conditions was determined. Recommendations are given for designating a roughness coefficient for the studied helical corrugation under free-flow and surcharged conditions.

Morgunov G.

Аннотация

A diagrammed arrangement of dams and station assemblies for symmetrical HPP are presented. Principal results of the design and 3D hydrodynamic computer simulation of low-head flow in a turbine unit are discussed for a traditional HPP and in a centrally symmetrical turbine unit of symmetrical HPPs, with confirmation of predicted fundamentally higher power efficiency of the new design.

Identification of Natural Oscillation Modes for Purposes of Seismic Assessment and Monitoring of HPP Dams

Kuz’menko A., Saburov S.

Аннотация

The paper puts forward a method for processing data from detailed seismic assessments of HPP dams (dynamic tests). A detailed assessment (hundreds of observation points in dam galleries) is performed with consideration of operating dam equipment and the microseismic noise. It is shown that dynamic oscillation characteristics (natural oscillation frequencies and modes in the main dam axes, the velocities of propagation of elastic waves with given polarization, and so on.) can be determined with sufficient accuracy by using complex transfer functions and pulse characteristics. Monitoring data is processed using data from a detailed assessment, taking account of identified natural oscillation modes and determined ranges of natural frequencies. The spectra of characteristic frequencies thus obtained are used to choose substitution models and estimate the elastic characteristics of the “dam – rock bed” construction system, viz., the modulus of elasticity (the Young modulus), the Poisson ratio, the dam section stiffness with respect to shear, tension and compression and the elastic characteristics of the rock foundation.

Corrosive Wear of Gate and Valve Metal Structures at Navigation Locks and Assessment of Their Remaining Lifetime

Kuz’mitskii M., Ksenofontov N.

Аннотация

The paper presents the results of the study of a phased model of corrosive wear in metal structures of navigation lock gates and valves. Such studies compensate, to some extent, for the lack of diagnostic information in assessing their remaining lifetime.

Geophysics Methods in Electrometric Assessment of Dams

Davydov V., Baidikov S., Gorshkov V., Malikov A.

Аннотация

The safety assessment of hydraulic structures is proposed to be conducted via geoelectric measurements, which are capable of assessing the health of earth dams in their natural bedding without intervention in their structure. Geoelectric measurements are shown as being capable of pinpointing hazardous parts of a dam, including areas of elevated seepage. Applications of such methods are shown for a number of mini-dams in the Sverdlovsk region. Aparameter (effective longitudinal conductivity) that may be used to monitor the safety of hydraulic structures is proposed. Quantitative estimates of this parameter are given in terms of the degree of safely.

Experimental Study of Intrachannel Separation in a Flat Nozzle Turbine Blade Assembly With Wet Stream Flow1

Gribin V., Tishchenko A., Gavrilov I., Popov V., Sorokin I., Tishchenko V., Khomyakov S.

Аннотация

This is an experimental study of wet steam flows in a nozzle turbine array with an intrachannel separation system that makes it possible to reduce the amount of erosion-hazardous droplets in a turbine stage. Separation is found to affect the parameters of the liquid phase beyond the array. Experiments were done on a test stand at the Moscow Power Engineering Institute with an initial steam humidity of 6.5% and a theoretical Mach number of M 1t = 0.6 beyond the array. Two separation slots at an angle of 90° to the generatrix of the profile surface were made on the concave surface of each blade in the test channel. The effect of the pressure drops in the slots on the wet steam flow downstream of the nozzle blade array was studied and the flow rates of the separated steam and liquid were measured separately. The efflux of the steam-water mixture into the slot was modelled in the ANSYS Fluent CFD computer code. This yielded a more complete picture of the flow structure in the slot and made it possible to explain the behaviors of the experimentally observed separated steam and liquid flows. The velocity distributions of the liquid phase beyond the nozzle were obtained by particle image velocimetry (PIV). The experimental data can be used to modify the parameters of intrachannel separation systems for steam turbine stages and to increase the reliability and operating efficiency of turbine blades.

High-Pressure Deaerator for 300-MW Power Generating Units

Egorov P., Gimmel’berg A., Mikhailov V., Chuprakov M., Baeva A.

Аннотация

Thermal high-pressure deaerators with a capacity of 1000 tons/h have been developed and installed at the Kostroma State Regional Power Plant and the Wang-Bi Thermal Power Plant in Vietnam. The deaerators can be constructed with a vertical or horizontal deaeration column installed on a deaerator tank with the required volume. Based on this positive operating experience, it is appropriate to develop proposals for the composition and design of a commercial feed-water deaerator with a capacity of 1000 tons/h for use in 200 – 300-MW power generating units.

A Refined Method for Designing the Staged Evaporation System of Drum Boilers With External Saline Sections and Its Application

Fedorov A.

Аннотация

Arefined method for designing staged evaporation systems is developed. It allows for the design features (two symmetric sections, salt ratio line, continuous and intermittent blowdown points, etc.) of the external saline sections and the circulation conditions in the saline sections, each having two cyclones on each side of the boiler and being close upon one waterwall (circulation surge). Examples of using the method to improve the reliability of the saline sections are given.

Flare Temperature and Nitrogen Oxide Emission Reduction and Heat Transfer in the TGMP-314I Steam Boiler Firebox

Makarov A.

Аннотация

Asolution is given to the problem of heat transfer in the firebox of a steam boiler, taking account of the radiation from all quadrillions of atoms constituting the flare. An innovative firebox for a steam boiler is proposed: the lower part of the firebox is a rectangular parallelepiped and the upper part a four-sided pyramid. The calculations show that in the proposed firebox the nonuniformity of the heat-flux distribution is diminished along the height and perimeter of the walls and nitrogen oxide emissions are reduced.

Energy Efficiency of Low-Temperature Deaeration of Makeup Water for a District Heating System

Sharapov V., Kudryavtseva E.

Аннотация

It is shown that the temperature of makeup water in district heating systems has a strong effect on the energy efficiency of turbines of thermal power plants. A low-temperature deaeration process that considerably improves the energy efficiency of thermal power plants is developed. The desorbing agent is the gas supplied to the burners of the boiler. The energy efficiency of the process for a typical unit of thermal power plant is assessed.

Use of Backup Distance Protection on a Block Transformer

Frolova E., Osintsev A.

Аннотация

The use of the conventional approach to picking set points and the application of classic algorithms for distance protection in a number of cases do not give the required sensitivity, which the computational results presented in this paper clearly show. An unconventional approach to solving this problem is proposed: the simultaneous use of several independent measuring elements in the distance protection step.

Emergency Cooling of Nuclear Power Plant Reactors With Heat Removal By a Forced-Draft Cooling Tower

Murav’ev V.

Аннотация

The feasibility of heat removal during emergency cooling of a reactor by a forced-draft cooling tower with accumulation of the peak heat release in a volume of precooled water is evaluated. The advantages of a cooling tower over a spray cooling pond are demonstrated: it requires less space, consumes less material, employs shorter lines in the heat removal system, and provides considerably better protection of the environment from wetting by entrained moisture.
