PHOTODYNAMIC THERAPY WITH INTERSTITIAL IRRADIATION OF SKIN TUMORS
Abstract
Photodynamic therapy with interstitial irradiation was carried out in 21 patients with basal cell and squamous cell carcinomas of the skin (T1—4N0M0). The tumors completely regressed in 76.2% patients, partially regressed in 23.8%. The therapy was ineffective in none of the cases. The results suggest this method for the treatment of large skin tumors of various sites as a monotherapy and in combination with long distance photodynamic therapy.

LASER-INDUCED THERMOTHERAPY OF BASAL CELL CARCINOMA
Abstract
Seventy-seven patients with variants of surface and nodular basal cell carcinomas were treated, 31 of these with multiple carcinomas. Laser-induced thermotherapy (LITT) was carried using LAMI semiconductor laser. For multiple basal cell carcinomas, LITT was combined with prospidine therapy. The efficiency of a single LITT exposure of T1N0M0 surface and micronodular basal cell carcinomas and multiple basal cell carcinomas (2-3 surface and/or micronodular tumors, T1N0M0) was 97%. The efficiency of two LITT exposures for T2N0M0 solitary surface ulcerative, nodular basal cell tumors and T1N0M0 multiple tumors with 3 and more foci was 73.8%. In 11 cases cure was attained after 3 LITT sessions.

MORPHOLOGY OF ACTINIC KERATOSIS
Abstract
Actinic keratosis (AK) is a precancer disease of the skin, emerging in skin sites exposed to the sun. It is characterized by local intraepidermal dysplasia of different severity (KIN I — slight, KIN II — moderate, and KIN III — severe). We studied the distribution and morphology of AK histological types. The study was carried out on 30 biopsy specimens from patients. The study showed that the main morphological signs of AK in the epidermis were keratinocyte dysplasia and hyperparakeratosis; changes in the derma were presented by elastosis in all cases. The most prevalent morphological types of solar keratosis were hypertrophic, atrophic, and bovenoid variants. Slight dysplasia (KIN I) was found mainly in atrophic AK, moderate (KIN II) in hypertrophic, and severe (KIN III) only in bovenoid AK.

SKIN MUCINOSIS. ARNDT-GOTTRON’S SCLEROMYXEDEMA
Abstract
The authors review in brief published data on metabolic dermatoses included in the group of idiopathic (primary) skin mucinosis and clearly differentiated as individual nosological entities. A patient with typical clinical signs of Arndt-Gottron ’s scleromyxedema is described. The diagnosis is verified by pathohistological studies of involved skin. Specific features of this case are the emergence and progress of scleromyxedema in the presence of chronic alcoholism and multiple concomitant visceral diseases — diffuse epidemic goiter without thyroid dysfunction (euthyrosis) and the metabolic syndrome (abdominal obesity, arterial hypertension, type 2 diabetes mellitus, and hypertriglyceridemia). Therapeutic strategy in patients with scleromyxedema and concomitant multiple visceral diseases is discussed.

TOTAL SYSTEMS OXYGEN OZONE THERAPY FOR NECROBIOSIS LIPOIDICA
Abstract
Necrobiosis lipoidica (NL) is often concomitant with diabetes mellitus. Many patients with this condition have aggravated family history for diabetes mellitus and disorders of glucose tolerance. Microangiopathies are the leading pathogenetic factor in the development of NL, which is resistant to therapy. A new method for the treatment of NL by intravenous infusions of ozonated saline combined with trental therapy is suggested.

PREVENTIVE TREATMENT OF INDIVIDUALS WHO HAD CONTACTS WITH PATIENTS WITH CONTAGIOUS SYPHILIS
Abstract
Protocols of differentiated preventive azitromycin therapy have been developed for patients with a history of sexual intercourse or close communal contacts with patients with contagious syphilis. Single oral drug doses for incubation periods of up to 14 days were 1 g, up to 1 month 1.5 g, and up to 2 months 2 g. Clinical and serological testing throughout 6 months showed no signs of syphilis in all subjects with a history of contacts. The protocol can be used in practical public health.
