We develop a procedure aimed at the analysis of the main regularities of external burnishing of cylindrical billets of 40Kh steel with the use of a tool made of Al₂O₃–TiC ceramics. On the basis of results of experimental investigations, we construct a system of operation of a ceramic burnisher that takes into account the stress-strain state of the ceramics in the zone of contact with the billet.
