RIM interindustry macroeconomic model: Development of instruments under current economic conditions

Abstract

The article describes an updated version of RIM interindustry macroeconomic model, which can be seen as a key element of the system of complex macrostructural forecasting developed at the Institute of Economic Forecasting Russian Academy of Sciences, providing analysis and long-term forecast taking into account existing resource constraints of various kinds. The main approaches used in the development of the model, as well as the most important functional interactions in its structure, were considered.

An overview of the state and priorities of the iron and steel industry in the Russian Far East

This article discusses the results of assessing the performance of the forest industry complex of the Republic of Komi based on calculating the value added index. The value, structure, and dynamics of the index have been analyzed and intraindustry and international comparisons are provided. The specificity of the formation of the enterprise value that significantly determines the final economic efficiency of the forest industry complex has been revealed.

The impact of the institutional and infrastructural environment on innovation-based development in today’s world

Abstract

This paper provides a comparative assessment of innovation-based development in Russia and several OECD and BRICS countries. Several tiers of countries have been introduced based on the assessment. The impact of various factors on innovation performance has been calculated for each tier using the tier average values of indicators that correspond to these factors. As a result, the most common features that are typical for a given level of development of an innovation environment are identified. The analysis provides a basis for recommendations regarding a strategy for innovation-based development of the Russian Federation.

Cooperation between Russia and the European Union: From importing to exporting technology

Abstract

This article analyzes the trade and economic relations between Russia and European Union. It has been shown that the existing substantial qualitative imbalance in the mutual trade f lows is largely due to the level of development of innovation systems in Russia and the European Union. Arguments have been presented for implementing an import substitution strategy in regions of Russia in the existing political and economic situation (the sanctions against Russia and the depreciation of the ruble). Proposals have been presented for the development of import substitution in regions of Russia (in the case of the Vologda oblast).

Abstract

The general trade effects and changes in the commodity and geographical trade structures for Russia under the condition of integrating trade with countries of the European Union, BRICS and Trans-Pacific Partnership have been estimated in the article. It has been stated that it is preferable for the Russian economy to approach European Union countries in order to obtain the maximum values of the welfare effect and trade-creation effect, and to proportionally increase the export and import volumes with the BRICS countries. Based on the prolongation of the shortterm tendencies, the long-term challenges to the Russian economy and possibilities of liberalizing trade with the mentioned trade unions have been specified.

Russian enterprises at the end of 2016: Reaction to varying ruble exchange rate and the workforce situation

Abstract

This article represents an analysis of and comments on the results of a regular survey of Russian enterprises operating in the real sector, which was conducted by the Institute of Economic Forecasting, Russian Academy of Sciences. It represents opinions of enterprises, the modern macroeconomic problems of which they believe to be the most acute. This article considers the responses of enterprises regarding how their activities have been affected by the mutual sanctions between Russia and Western countries, as well as by Russia’s WTO accession. We have shown the opinions of enterprises on their interests in the ruble exchange rate. This ref lects the current situation with the workforce at enterprises and gives data on their participation in solving of housing problems faced by their employees. This article contains information on how enterprises rate today’s level of competition with foreign manufacturers on Russian markets.
