Abstract
The article shows the importance of assessing the effectiveness of government programs due to the increasingly widespread use of the program approach in the system of public administration, strategic planning, and the formation of budgets at all levels. The problems and the possibilities of assessing the effectiveness of government programs, “Socioeconomic Development of the Far East and the Baikal Region” and “Socioeconomic Development of the Arctic Zone of the Russian Federation up to 2020” have been considered.
