Control of Hybrid Power Unit with a Mechanical Transmission in High-Speed Caterpillar Vehicles
Abstract
The properties of a hybrid power unit in which a mechanical transmission rigidly connects the internal combustion engine to the driving wheels are considered. In this transmission, the torque created by the parallel electric field is summed with the torque generated by the engine in the event of overloading. The control algorithms developed for the electric power prevent its opposition to the mechanical power under any circumstances.
Modeling the Operation of Bulk-Action Hybrid Piston Power Systems
Abstract
The operation of a bulk-action hybrid piston power unit is described by a mathematical model based on the laws of energy, mass, and momentum conservation and the equation of state. The influence of the pressure in the pump and compressor sections, the gap in the compressor section, and the eccentricity on the relation between the opposing liquid flow rates through the piston seal and on the thickness of the liquid layer above the piston is analyzed.

Influence of Ultrasonic Finishing on the Surface Roughness of Ship Components
Abstract
The influence of plastic deformation by ultrasonic smoothing on the surface roughness of 17Kh18N9 and 20Kh1M1F1TR steel billet in finishing is studied. In the experiments, a D-optimal Hartley–Kono design for four factors is employed. The four factors are the speed of billet rotation, the supply, the clamping force, and the ultrasonic power.
Failure of Steel Grinding Balls
Abstract
Abstract—The structure of grinding balls with an atypical central zone is studied after failure in tests. The structure of the corresponding blanks is also analyzed. The appearance of martensitic sections in the central zone is explained. Recommendations are made for eliminating this problem.

Fuzzy Cognitive Model for Identification of Destabilizing Factors
Abstract
A fuzzy cognitive model of industrial emergencies is proposed. The model permits analysis of possible measures for risk reduction and the elimination of emergencies and accidents at industrial enterprises. The relationships among and within groups of concepts in the fuzzy cognitive model are established. The applicability of the new fuzzy cognitive model is discussed.
Reconciling Quality Requirements over the Product Life Cycle
Abstract
The requirements on product quality at all stages of the life cycle are analyzed. The characteristics on which requirements are imposed are noted. Common characteristics present at all stages of the life cycle are identified. It is found that the requirements on the common characteristics at different stages of the life cycle may be inconsistent. These requirements may effectively be reconciled if the requirements on the characteristics established at the operational stage are lowered.

Improving the Attachment and Wear Resistance of Diamonds in Tools
Abstract
It is expedient to use an adhesive coating with insular structure to bind diamonds in tools. The vacancies in the defective sections of the diamond surface are saturated with metal atoms. The reliability of diamond retention may be assessed by applying cyclic dynamic loads to simulate the forces on the diamond in tool operation. The influence of a titanium–nickel coating on the diamond retention and the wear resistance of the diamond tool is investigated.

Evolution of the Dynamic Cutting System with Irreversible Energy Transformation in the Machining Zone
Abstract
The evolution of the dynamic cutting system is simulated with different trajectories of the power of irreversible transformations in performing work. The evolutionary changes associated with change in tool wear and in surface precision and quality depend on the dynamic properties, on the subsystems that interact through cutting, and also on the initial dynamic relationship formed by the process.

Management of Innovative Projects over the Life Cycle of Distributed Aviation Systems
Abstract
Distributed aviation systems are considered. Different stages in the life cycle of such systems are investigated. Recommendations are made regarding the appropriate project-management methods at different stages in the life cycle in addressing research, design, and other problems and ensuring effective operation of a distributed system and its components.
