Abstract

Electrified alternating-current railroads are a large consumer of electrical energy, for which reason the problem of development of an adaptive device of reactive-power compensation allowing one to control it with an abruptly variable character of the traction network load is important. This article gives an overview of a controlled device of parallel reactive-power compensation for electrified railroads that has been constructed on the basis of a reactor with its inductance controlled using an electromechanical core drive. Functional and structural diagrams of the automatic control systems of the compensation device are given, and indicators of control-system quality are studied using mathematical modeling. It is shown that the proposed device permits to efficient reaction to sudden changes of the load in the traction system, retention of stability ensuring satisfactory quality of the transient processes, and exclusion of generation of higher current harmonics into the traction network.
