Abstract
The responses of an aluminum multilayer composite to dynamic loading are described using the relaxation model of plasticity. The relations between the strain-rate sensitivity of a multilayer composite, the dynamic-loading parameters, and the strain-rate sensitivity of its components are established. The estimates of the strain-rate sensitivity are shown to be higher for the GLARE composite as compared to those for the rate sensitivity for its component—Al 2024-T3 sheet metal.
