Peer Review Process

The review is carried out by external experts selected by the editorial board.

  1. All papers submitted to the editors of the Russian Journal of Physiology go through the obligatory one-sided "blind" peer review (the reviewers know the names of the authors, the authors do not know the names of the reviewers). Each paper is forwarded to 2 reviewers minimum.
  2. Both editorial board members and invited experts - leading physiologists - can review papers. The co-authors of the recent (last 3 years) publications by the authors, as well as their coworkers (members of the same laboratory / department), can not be their reviewers.
  3. The papers submitted to the journal can be checked for the plagiarism using the "Antiplagiat" system. If the result reveals any incorrect borrowings, the paper will be rejected.
  4. The authors can recommend or reject one or several potential reviewers upon submitting the paper. The paper will not be sent for review to the rejected experts. The choice of the experts for peer review is made by the chief editor of their deputy.
  5. Each reviewer can turn down the review proposal if they don't have enouth time or have a conflict of interests that can affect the assessment of the submitted materials.
  6. The review period usually takes 2-4 weeks. Author can track all stages of the review process if their personal account.
  7. In conclusion of the manuscript examination the reviewer submits the report in which they highlight the strong and weak points of the paper, their suggestions to the authors on the ways to improve and revise the paper, and their summarized recomendation:
    • the paper can be acceptes as is;
    • the paper can be accepted if the flaws mentioned by the reviewer are corrected;
    • the paper must be overhauled and again submitted for the review;
    • the paper can not be published in the journal.
  8. If the review reports contain suggestions for correction or improvement of the paper, the editors forward the texts of the reports to the author's email with proposal to take them into account during the preparation of the new version of the paper or to justifiably (fully or partially) refute them. The deadline for the revision is set by the editor taking into account the reviewers commentary. The revised paper can be submitted for the subsequent review using the personal account on the journal website.
  9. If authors or reviewers encountered insoluble contradictions reguarding the manuscript, the editors may assign the manuscript for an additional review.
  10. The final decision for publication is made by the chief editor. The authors a notified about the decision by email. The results of the review and the decision of the editorial board are also avaliable to the author in their personal account.
