Editorial Policies
Aims and Scope
Ontogenez is a scientific journal dedicated to development biology and related disciplines.
The journal publishes experimental, theoretical and review articles on mechanisms of development, cell differentiation and growth. We welcome works on the mechanisms of embryonic and post-embryonic development in normal and pathological conditions, performed at the molecular, cellular, tissue and organism levels.
Main thematic headings:
- Developmental biology of animals (invertebrates and vertebrates)
- Biology of plant development
- Developmental biology of representatives of other kingdoms of living organisms
- Mechanisms of normal and pathological development
- Molecular Developmental Biology
- Mechanisms of cell proliferation and differentiation
- Morphogenesis (physical, cellular and molecular basis)
- Regeneration
- Methods and models of developmental biology
- Evolutionary Developmental Biology
- Environmental Developmental Biology
- Developmental biology news (popular synopses, conference reports)
- Book review
Types of publications:
- Original articles contain new information that contributes to a better understanding of development and cell differentiation. Methodological or "descriptive" articles (e.g., those containing data on the expression of individual genes) are accepted only if they are relevant for developmental biology. The article should not exceed 10 000 words excluding references. The paper should be accompanied by a two-sentence summary and a graphical abstract.
- Short reports present new data that can be assessed as priority for the field of biology of development under study. The article should not exceed 3000 words and may include 2 figures and 15 references. The paper should be accompanied by a two-sentence summary and a graphical abstract.
- Reviews should be problem-oriented, analytical, with a clearly visible position of the authors on the issue under consideration, with preference given to reviews devoted to new promising areas of biology of development The journal accepts mini-reviews (less than 3000 words, 2 figures, 30 references) and reviews that should not exceed 12 000 words. Both reviews and mini-reviews should be accompanied by a two-sentence summary and a graphical abstract.

Peer Review Process
REVIEW PROCESS
The article submitted to the Editorial Board is sent for review to experts in the field of research. At the discretion of the editorial board, the article may be sent for an additional review. Manuscripts that do not correspond to the profile of the journal are rejected after a rapid evaluation by the Editorial Board.
REVISION
The article accepted for publication, but in need of improvement, is sent back to the authors with the reviewers’ comments. The authors should return the corrected version of the article together with the original text and the response to all the comments of the reviewers within 60 days from the initial decision, otherwise it will be considered as a new submission.
Authors of the articles accepted for publication should sign the copyright transfer agreement that can be found here.
PROOFREADING
Proofs are sent by the Publishers as a PDF file by e-mail to the authors for proofreading; no other changes or additions to the check correction are allowed. The corrected proofs must be sent back to the Publisher within 48 hours of receipt.
Publication Frequency
Number of issues per year: 6.
