Abstract
The effect of the mechanism of plastic deformation on formation of the submicrocrystalline structure of steels is considered. It is shown that the development of new schemes of pressure treatment of metals with severe alternating deformation is a promising approach. A method of two-pass rolling providing severe alternating deformation with minor changes in the sizes of the billet is suggested. Computer simulation is used to show that the new rolling technique raises the strain uniformity over the height and the strain in the plane of symmetry of the billet.
