Synthesis and spectral luminescent properties of N,N′-bis(2-hydroxy-4-methylbenzylidene)-N-(2-aminoethyl)ethane-1,2-diamine in different solvents
Abstract
Spectral luminescent properties of a new aromatic azomethine N,N’-bis(2-hydroxy-4-methylbenzylidene)-N-(2-aminoethyl)ethane-1,2-diamine have been studied. At 293 K the substance fluoresces in solution and polycrystalline state. The luminescence parameters of azomethine in solutions are determined by the properties of the solvent and the excitation light energy. Depending on the nature of the solvent, the luminescence activity of azomethine is due to the different contribution of its tautomeric forms, i.e., enol-imine and keto-enamine.

Quantum-chemical determination of electron-vibrational characteristics of Er/Ce:Y3Al5O12 nanoclusters
Abstract
A quantum-chemical study of the vibrational and electronic characteristics of the nanocrystalline component of luminescent optical glass-ceramics based on alumina-ittrium garnet doped with Er and Ce ions, which find application in the fabrication of optical integrated circuits, in the technique of solid-state lasers and illumination sources, has been performed. In this work, models of different stoichiometric composition of Er/Ce:Y3AL5O12 have been calculated by the DFT/uB3PW91/SDD method. The IR spectra were calculated and the absorption bands of the calculated wave numbers were correlated with the measured ones. The electronic spectrum was modeled by the DFT method with B3PW91 and WB97xd functionals, the energies of levels were determined and the forbidden band width was calculated.

Irradiation N2 B′3SU- → B3ΠG in the luminescence spectrum of nitrogen-doped solid neon
Abstract
For the first time, luminescence spectra of molecular nitrogen on transitions between high-lying states Bˊ3Su- and B3Pg were observed and identified in a neon matrix at 5 K as a result of thermally stimulated recombination of nitrogen atoms.

Spectral and photochemical properties of styrylquinoline–carbazole dyad in neutral and protonated forms
Abstract
Spectral-luminescent and photochemical properties of neutral and protonated forms of styrylquinoline – carbazole dyad SQ3Cbz, in which the carbazole fragment (Cbz) is linked to the 2-styrylquinoline (SQ) residue via an oxytrimethylene bridge, were studied. It was shown that in both forms of SQ3Cbz strong quenching of the Cbz fragment fluorescence is observed due to energy transfer to the SQ fragment via the Förster mechanism. In the protonated form of the dyad, where the proton is localized on the SQ fragment, a significant decrease in the quantum yields of trans-cis photoisomerization and fluorescence of the SQ fragment is observed, as well as a blue shift of its emission band compared to the model SQ chromophore. It is suggested that the observed effects are related to the formation of folded dyad conformers in which the SQ chromophore has a more rigid structure and/or the process of electron transfer from Cbz to the protonated SQ fragment. DFT calculations predict the possibility of the formation of folded dyad conformers that are stabilized by π-stacking interactions between Cbz and SQ fragments.

Implication of nucleinic acids on spectral properties of solves of complexes of Pd(II) and Pt(II) with aromatic ligands
Abstract
The interaction between nucleic acids (calf thymus DNA and plasmid pCY B3, yeast RNA) and ethylenediamine complexes of Pd(II) and Pt(II) containing aromatic heterocyclic ligands (2,2`-bipyridyl, 1,10-phenanthroline, 2-phenylpyridine, 2-(2`-ethyl)pyridine, 2-phenylpyridine, 2-(2`-ethyl)pyridine) was studied by electron absorption spectroscopy and gel electrophoresis, containing aromatic heterocyclic ligands (2,2`-bipyridyl, 1,10-phenanthroline, 2-phenylpyridine, 2-(2`-thienyl)pyridine, 7,8-benzoquinoline, methyl-2-phenyl-4-quinoline carboxylate, coumarin-6 and Nile red. The applicability of electron absorption spectroscopy to establish the intercalation of organometallic complexes in DNA was demonstrated. Of the investigated complexes, only complexes of Pd(II) with Nile red and coumarin-6 were found to be capable of intensive interaction with RNA. The effective unraveling of the secondary stranding of plasmid DNA detected by gel electrophoresis suggests that these same complexes intercalate into DNA more actively than others.

Spectroscopy of radiation-induced intermediates formed by phosphine irradiation in inert matrices: anionic particles
Abstract
Phosphine (PH3) is one of the key inorganic molecules that arise from various biogenic compounds in terrestrial and planetary atmospheres. The action of ionizing radiation on phosphine molecules may result in the formation of charged particles, the characteristics of which are not sufficiently studied. In the present work, the vibrational spectra of isolated anions PH2– and PH–• which can be stabilized by the action of X-ray radiation on the systems PH3/Ne and PH3/Ar at 4.5 K have been experimentally obtained and characterized for the first time. The results obtained show that the frequencies of P–H valence vibrations in anionic particles are shifted to the red region relative to the frequencies of vibrations in the corresponding neutral molecules or radicals, which indicates the weakening of P–H bonds as a result of electron capture. Based on the analysis of the structure of the PH–• absorption bands in the neon matrix, it is suggested that this anion can arise by two different mechanisms – capture of thermalized electrons by PH...H2 pairs stabilized in one cell and dissociative capture of “hot” electrons by phosphine molecules.

DOSE EQUALIZATION IN ELECTRON BEAM NEUTRALIZATION OF IMPURITIES IN WATER
Abstract
A promising design of an irradiator for high-speed electron beam treatment of wastewater in a jet mode is considered. The feasibility of combining technical solutions previously used separately in the design of the ELV-12 and Electron-10 accelerators is demonstrated. A high-speed water jet (>1 m/s) is irradiated from both sides in the gap between two beam windows, directing the beams at α = 45–60° angle to the plane of the jet. In this case, the useful thickness of the jet, which ensures maximum uniformity of irradiation with 1, 2 and 3 MeV electrons, as well as the lowest beam energy losses, is 5.2, 13.1 and 20.8 mm at α = 60° and 4.2, 10.7 and 17 mm at α = 45°, respectively. Options for simultaneous irradiation of two and four water jets are being considered.

Deformation and strength properties of polyester resins subjected to gamma irradiation and microwave treatment
Abstract
The effect of γ-radiation 60Co and microwave radiation on industrial polyester resins of “Kamfest-05I” and “Kamfest-15VES” grades has been studied. It is shown that mechanical characteristics of the studied resins improve with the increase of γ-irradiation dose up to 2000 kGy and deteriorate with further growth of the absorbed dose. In this case by intensity of strengthening effect of tensile strength under radiation the samples of resin “Kamfest-05I” exceed the samples of “Kamfest-15VES”, in case of bending strength the opposite is observed, “Kamfest-15VES” has higher strength than “Kamfest-05I”. Both grades of resins are characterized by a slight increase and further decline in strength characteristics with increasing microwave treatment time. It is shown that radiation resistance of resins depends on their composition and doses of γ-irradiation up to 2000 kGy can be used to increase their strength.

KINETIC REGULARITIES OF PLASMA-SOLUTION SYNTHESIS OF NICKEL OXIDE
Abstract
The kinetics of formation of insoluble nickel hydroxocompounds initiated by the action of direct current discharge of atmospheric pressure in air on Ni(NO3)2 · 6H2O aqueous solutions has been studied. It was found that these compounds are formed as colloidal systems only when the solution is the anode of the discharge. In the case when the solution serves as a cathode, the formation of colloidal solutions is not observed. The investigated range of solution concentrations was 20–60 mmol/L and discharge currents were 20–60 mA. It was found that the kinetics of Ni2+ ions concentration loss was concentration dependent (zero/first kinetic order of the reaction) and independent of the discharge current. The rate constants and rate of loss of Ni2+ ions, their conversion degrees were determined, and the energy efficiency of the ion conversion process was found. The conversion degree and energy efficiency depended on the discharge current and initial concentration and were 4–25% and 0.1–0.5 ions per 100 eV, respectively. X-ray diffraction studies showed that the precipitates formed were Ni(OH)2 powder, and its calcination leads to the formation of crystalline β-NiO.

The effect of reactive oxygen and nitrogen species generated by electric discharges on the primary structure of protein and biological objects
Abstract
The effect of reactive oxygen and nitrogen species generated by cold plasma of corona electric discharge, pulsed radiation of hot plasma and UV radiation of low-pressure mercury lamp on albumin protein, amino acids tyrosine, tryptophan, phenylalanine and Gram-positive, Gram-negative bacteria and micromycetes was investigated. The degree of degradation of all samples was assessed by fluorescence reduction and microbial survival by CFU value after culturing. It was found that fluorescence is determined by the primary protein structure, while microbial survival by second and higher order structures.
