Effect of metal compounds on α-Si3N4 formation during silicon combustion in nitrogen in the presence of organic additives

We have examined the effect of metal compounds on α-Si₃N₄ formation as a result of silicon combustion in nitrogen in the presence of organic compounds. The results demonstrate that the iron and copper chlorides FeCl₃ · 6Н₂О and CuCl₂ · 2Н₂О have the strongest effect on α-Si3N4 formation. The contributions of the metal chlorides and organic compounds to α-Si₃N₄ formation have been shown to be nonadditive.
