Carbonate extraction-based refining of uranium. Separation of U(VI), Ce(IV), and Ln(III) from aqueous carbonate solutions with methyltrioctylammonium carbonate

Boyarintsev A., Abashev L., Stepanov S., Zhilov V., Chekmarev A., Tsivadze A.

Resumo

The extraction of U(VI), Ce(IV), La(III), Nd(III), Sm(III), and Y(III) from an aqueous solution of Na2CO3 (0.25 mol/L) resulting from oxidative dissolution of U(IV) in the presence of H2O2 into a solution of methyltrioctylammonium carbonate (0.25 mol/L) in toluene. It was found that βU(VI)/Ln(III) values vary from ~8 to 3290 as the O : W ratio changes from 2 : 1 to 10 : 1, while βU(VI)/Ce(IV) varies from ~1.5 to 10, which allows for the extraction separation of U(VI) from Ce(IV) in a 8- to 10-stage counter-current extraction cascade and from Ln(III) in 2- to 3-stage cascade under the same conditions.

Hexabrominated porphyrins in the synthesis of fluorene-containing polyphenols

Vainer A., Dyumaev K., Kovalenko A., Babushkin Y., Krichevskaya S., Taritskaya S.

Resumo

A new strategy for the synthesis of fluorene-containing polyphenols of porphyrin series by the Suzuki–Miyaura reaction of hexabromoporphyrin and monoboryl derivative of substituted fluorene has been proposed. Several sequential chemical transformations of the prepared porphyrin allowed preparation of polyphenol derivative of the noted compound. Similar polyphenol has been used as a basis for the design of positive photoresists for nanolithography with 13.5-nm exposing radiation, which can produce topological structures with resolution 22–16 nm.

The effect of microwave radiation on dissolved elemental sulfur in the presence of ionic liquids

Tarasova N., Zanin A., Sobolev P., Krivoborodov E.

Resumo

The products of transformation of elemental sulfur in benzene solutions in the presence of ionic liquids under microwave irradiation have been studied by NMR. It has been shown that some ionic liquids can cease to be chemically inert and react with elemental sulfur.

Tritium-labeled 5-oxo-Pro-Arg-Pro

Shevchenko V., Nagaev I., Andreeva L., Myasoedov N.

Resumo

Conditions of tritium introduction into 5-oxo-Pro-Arg-Pro have been developed. Labelled 5-oxo-Pro-Arg-Pro has been obtained in 75% yield and molar radioactivity of 60 Ci/mmol. Tritium distribution over amino acid residues in the peptide has been determined. 5-Oxo-Pro : Arg : Pro ratio in the labelled peptide has been found to be 1 : 5.2 : 2.8. Nonterminal amino acid has been found to contain the major portion of tritium, about 35 Ci/mmol; i.e., arginine includes more than half of the label. Such a feature can be explained by the effect of readily protonated guanidine group of arginine. The influence of charged guanidine group of arginine seems to increase the shift of electron density in the neighboring C–H bonds of arginine and proton mobility, thus increasing protium–tritium exchange at these carbon atoms.

β-oxalylamino-substituted O-ethyl N-arylcarbamates and N-ethyl-N′-arylureas encapsulated into micelles of vinylimidazole–vinylcaprolactam copolymer

Vorob’ev M., Kovalenko L., Kalistratova A., Oshchepkov M., Filippova V., Khodak A., Kochetkov K.

Resumo

Low-molecular-weight compounds—β-oxalylamino-substituted O-ethyl carbamates and unsymmetrical ureas showing biological activity—have been synthesized and encapsulated into micelles of vinylimidazole–vinylcaprolactam copolymers. Solubilization in micelles has provided a preparation of water-soluble colloidal formulation of these compounds suitable for practical application.

Heat-resistant alloys based on intermetallic Co3(Al, W)

Romanov E., Kazantseva N., Stepanova N., Demakov S., Davydov D., Shishkin D.

Resumo

The structures and phase compositions of a series of Co–9 at % Al–x at % W alloys (where x = 4.6, 6.8, 8.5, 10.0, 12.6) have been studied. All of them are dominated by the structure γ + γ′, with the content of other phases (the μ phase and the phase D019 based on Co3W) being insignificant. With increasing tungsten content of the alloy (to 10 at % W), the volume fraction of the γ′ phase increases, and so does its degree of long-range order. The alloy that is optimal in structure and mechanical properties has the composition Co–8.2 at % Al–8.5 at % W. The dissolution range of the γ′ phase was determined as 920–1054°C. Young’s moduli of cobalt alloys exceed E of commercial nickel-based superalloys. The samples of the studied alloys are in the ferromagnetic state with a Curie temperature of 870°C. With increasing tungsten content of the alloy, its saturation magnetization decreases and the coercive force increases. The coercive force is minimal in an as-cast sample and increases as it is subjected to deformation or heat treatment.

Development of the principles of an integrated process for extraction of high-purity graphite, gold, and rare earths from carbonaceous rocks

Khanchuk A., Molchanov V., Medkov M.

Resumo

Graphite-bearing rocks of the Ruzhinskaya area (Primorskii Krai, Russia) were found to contain high concentrations of noble and rare earth metals. Industrial exploration of these reserves is restrained by the lack of concentration technique. The application of hydrometallurgy for the production of useful components was studied for the first time. A prospective plan of integrated extraction of high-purity graphite, gold and rare earths using hydrogen fluoride treatment of flotation concentrates was designed.

Self-propagating high-temperature synthesis under the combined action of pressure and shear

Bazhin P., Stolin A., Mikheev M., Alymov M.

Resumo

A study was made of the role of high-temperature shear deformation in the processes of combustion and structuring of titanium carbide, which lead to changes in the grain size and morphology and in the quality of the end product. It was shown that, by applying shear loads to the as yet unformed material, the structure and morphology of the obtained powder can be affected. Shear deformation during self-propagating high-temperature synthesis results in an almost 100% yield of a powder with a particle size of less than 400 μm.

Plasma-chemical and hydrometallurgical processes for the synthesis of nanostructures from natural crystalline graphite

Khanchuk A., Molchanov V., Medkov M., Dostovalov V.

Resumo

A flow chart for the extraction of high-purity (99.98%) crystalline graphite by hydrometallurgical methods from the high-carbon rocks of the Ruzhinskaya area was developed. The graphite was used as the starting material for plasma-chemical tests. Nano-sized carbon nanomaterials were isolated upon the experiment. Some of them could be inherited from the natural graphite-bearing rocks. The results of investigation will be used in the development of resource-saving process for extraction of useful components.
