Abstract

AIM: This study aimed to analyze lateral magnetic attractive forces in switch reluctance traction motor in case of asymmetric magnetic frame and draw a set of recommendations aimed at partial or complete elimination of the effect of these forces on the bearing units of an electric machine.

METHODS: The calculations were performed using MATLAB (SIMULINK) mathematical models and the finite element method (FEMM software suite).

RESULTS: Lateral magnetic attractive forces in a switch reluctance traction motor can be significantly in case of asymmetric magnetic frame, reducing the service life of an electric machine.

CONCLUSION: The proposed set of measures at the design, manufacturing, and operation stages of the switched-reluctance traction motor of an electric locomotive will minimize the effect of lateral magnetic attraction forces on bearing assemblies and increase the service life of the electric machine.
