Abstract

Until now, acute perforated peritonitis is considered mainly as an infectious process. Almost every part of the stomach and intestines is inhabited by microflora, however, its quantity and pathogenicity are very different. According to the studies of V.R. Gaivorovsky and S.I.Boryu (1927), T.A. Glazkova (1956), V. Zykov (1903) and others, the duodenum contains a meager and, moreover, non-pathogenic microflora, and in 20 - 30% are generally sterile. Despite this, damage to the duodenum, as a rule, leads to peritonitis, which is characterized by a severe course and a high percentage of mortality '(E. S. Kerimova, 1959; G. F. Nikolaev, O. N. Survillo, I. I. Blizzard, 1949).
