"Ecological Genetics" in Genetic Education System of Sankt-Petersburg State University
Abstract
The introductory paper to this issue of the Journal presents the position and the meaning of ecological genetics in general system of basic genetic education. It shows connection between ecological genetics, general genetics and general biology as an experience of two-step education (bachelor, master), started in 1996 at biology and soil school of Sankt-Petersburg State University (SPbSU). Several aspects of ecological genetics are presented in connection with scientific methodology, structure and connection of master's program "Ecological genetics" with the other master's programs at department of Genetics and Breeding (SPbSU) as well. List of lectures and practical classes which are general for all master's programs is also presented.

Meaning of symbiogenetics for biological education
Abstract
The annotation of lecture course "Symbiogenetics" is suggested which represents the novel brunch of modern biology. It addresses the super-organism genetic systems which are formed due to interactions of non-related organisms (including pro- and eukaryotes) and ensure formation of the novel properties which extend the partners' ecological capacities. Elucidation of the universal mechanisms for establishment of inter-organisms communications enables us to develop the technologies for improving the extant symbiotic complexes and to construct the novel ones for being used in different areas of applied biology.

Ecological genetics
Abstract
The current lecture course within the master's degree program at the department of genetics and breeding is devoted to the main subject of ecological genetics, which is based on several approaches usually used in investigation of ecological relationships. According to this principle in the context of ecological genetics such original researches as genetic control of sinecological and autoeco-logical relationships and variability of sensitivity to environmental and biological factors are discussed in detail. In the course of "Ecological genetics" the historical foreshortening of ideas and methods applied in this biological science is given.Ecological genetics

Mechanisms of Modificational Variability
Abstract
Types of modifications and their position within the traditional classification of variability are analyzed. Through this approach contradictory status of the classification based upon phenomenology of variability is demonstrated. Interdependency of modifications and of inherent variability permits to pose an alternative classification of variability, based upon its mechanisms. There are variability: (1) connected with storage of genetic information and with replication of its carriers (genetic material) and (2) connected with realization (expression) of genetic information. So, it follows that idea of inherent and non-inherent variability is a secondary one toward their mechanisms and are connected with the taxonomy and life cycle stages. of the biological objects under investigation.

Genetic mechanisms of individual and cooperative adaptations
Abstract
The purpose of the course "Genetic mechanisms of individual and cooperative adaptation" (12 semester 18 hours) - is to provide students with a broad view in population mechanisms of the different types of adaptation. The problem of the course consists in benchmark analysis of the ways and mechanisms of the origin of these adaptations, as well as in their possible macroevolution consequence. The individual adaptation is considered on model of stressful influence on populations. Cooperative adaptation is considered basically on model of symbiosis, whose formation associates with origin of new traits, which greatly increase evolution potential of biological species. The course develops the knowledge obtained from prerequisite courses, such as "General genetics" "Symbiogenetics", "General ecology" and "Theory of evolution".

Enviromental factors and human heredity
Abstract
Current state of knowledge in human genome and environmental factors are rewied. Classifications of human inherited and inborn disorders are surveyed, and the methods of their detection are outlined. Main attention is paid to ecogenetic (multifactorial) diseases and to predictive trends in modern medical genetics.

Genetics of highest types of interactions between organisms
Abstract
The structure and content of the lecture course "Genetics of highest types of interactions between organisms" is briefly reviewed. The main goal of the course is to demonstrate genetic mechanisms participating in the formation of synecological interactions. The basic concept of the lectures is to show how inter- and intraspecific activity is determined by genetic differences in certain environmental conditions. Examples of genes involvement into complex interactions (including highest forms of behavior between humans) are analyzed.

Genetic toxicology
Abstract
The primary purposes of genetic toxicology are estimation of mutation appearance risk in both somatic and generative cells under different agents' action and decrease of negative consequences for a particular individual and whole population. In a course of the lectures on genetic toxicology the special attention is focused on problems of xenobiotic's metabolism in human organism and genetic control of biotransformation. The lecture course contains following topics: theories of a carcinogenesis, genetic markers of predisposition to development of cancer, problem of an-timutagens search. The principles of test-systems making and approaches to organization of environmental monitoring are surveyed.

Methods of gene engineering
Abstract
The practical course "Methods of gene engineering" is organized for Master students involved in different education programs, including the program "Ecological genetics". The course includes the training in the field of plasmid construction that is very useful for work in different areas of molecular biology. In this paper the annotation and program of course "Methods of gene engineering" are presented.

Applied aspects of ecological genetics
Abstract
The purpose of the present seminar is the discussion of actual problems of modern ecological genetics in applied aspect. The annually updated subject of the seminar is the one of developing directions of ecological genetics, which is offered to the students for discussion. Discussion of the reports prepared on materials of conferences, congresses, monographies, thesises is conducted. Several external excursions to scientific centers of the city are planed. The provisional list of seminar's themes is offered in the program of the present course
