COMPETITIVE ABILITY OF RUSSIAN MEDICAL SCIENCE: CURRENT STATE, PROBLEMS AND PROSPECTS
Abstract
The policy documents devoted to advancement of science in Russia for the period till 2020 set a national goal to raise the level of competitiveness of national universities, research centers and research teams up to the world level. To achieve this goal we need to acknowledge the necessity to adopt the universally recognized criteria for assessment of a scientist's performance and to main- tain the highest standards of the national education and research activities. This article presents the results of analysis of compliance of Russian research works with the world standards of quali- ty and effectiveness. The analysis is based on materials of the international conference "Science online: online resources for science and education" and publications in Internet.

PERSISTENT HERPES VIRUS INFECTIONS IN PATIENTS WITH CHRONIC GLOMERULONEPHRITIS
Abstract
Virological studies of blood, urine, and saliva in 75 patients with chronic glomerulonephritis (GN) revealed that 95% had herpesvirus infections, caused by herpes simplex virus (HSV) types 1 (34.4%) and 2 (2.6%), cytomegalovirus (CMV) (12%) or mixed (HSV + CMV) infection (46%). In the control group, the children without renal diseases had the infection rate significantly less – 12% (HSV (9%) and CMV (3%). Most (94%) patients were found to have a diagnostically significant level of antiherpetic IgG antibodies, which also suggests chronic herpesvirus infection. Specific IgM antibodies were also detectable when the viruses were isolated.

BIOELECTRIC IMPEDANCEMETRY AS A METHOD OF ASSESSMENT OF THE MYOCARDIUM DURING OPEN-HEART SURGERY
Abstract
The article analyses the possibility of using direct bioelectric impedancemetry of the right ven- tricle (RV) as an intra-operation method for evaluation of myocardial protection effectiveness in open-heart surgery. The results of intra-operation monitoring of bioelectric impedancemetry indi- cators of RV in 40 patients underwent surgical treatment with the use of cardioplegia were ana- lyzed. Bioelectrical impedance of myocardium has been studied during the whole period of artificial blood circulation. The analysis of the results showed that the bioelectric myocardium impedancemetry allows to assess the level of the interstitial space filling during the infusion of cardioplegia solution, providing an opportunity to assess the perfusion adequacy and also the level of reperfusion cells damage and myocardium swelling degree at the stage of coronary blood flow restoration. Using the method of myocardium bioelectric impedancemetry we found that blood cardioplegia with the "thermal induction" more reliably protects the myocardium in the period of anoxia in comparison with the cold cardioplegia.

SURGICAL CORRECTION OF IDIOPATHIC SCOLIOSIS BY ROD SYSTEM
Abstract
In this article the results of surgical treatment of 150 patients with adult idiopathic scoliosis are presented. We used a rod instrumentation LSZ-3 of full and selective fusion of primary curve. Application of the core endocorrector LSZ-3 allowed to reduce the traumatism of surgical treat- ment and the risk of fatigue fractures of endocorrector components. This method improved both the physical adaptation of the patients after the operation and their quality of life.

THE CLINICAL CASE OF THE PREVALENCE OF DERMATOLOGICAL MANIFESTATIONS IN PATIENT WITH NONSPECIFIC ULCERATIVE COLITIS
Abstract
The clinical case of the patient with prevalence of extraintestinal manifestations (dermatological) of nonspecific ulcerative colitis is discussed. The diagnostic of nonspecific ulcerative colitis with insignificant intestinal symptomatology is very difficult. A correct estimation of all symptoms is promoting the timely diagnostic. This is leads to early administration of appropriate therapy, and allows to get the remission of ulcerative colitis.

METHODS OF DIAGNOSTICS AND TREATMENT OF PATIENTS WITH MECHANICAL JAUNDICE
Abstract
The article is dedicated to actual problem of diagnostic and treatment of patients with mechan- ical jaundice of different genesis. The authors consider that using of low invasive methods of biliar decompression – endoscopic and transcutaneous – is of great importance now. It is described effi- ciency, indications and contraindications for each low invasive method in details. The authors offer their own algorithm of diagnostic and treatment in patients with mechanical jaundice.

STEM CELLS FOR THE THERAPY OF ISCHEMIC HEART DISEASE: ADVANCES AND PROSPECTS
Abstract
Ischemic heart disease (IHD) accelerates death of cardiomyocytes and leads to the onset of cardiac failure. Due to the application of stem cells, there exists a potential for the regeneration of a damaged myocardium. Here we present a brief review of the modern data on the application of different types of stem cells for the IHD therapy. We pay special attention to the type of stem cells which is most preferable for the clinical application, namely, to the mesenchymal stem cells (MSC), including their advantages, clinical trials, as well as the strategy for the MSC optimization in order to boost their regenerative potential.
