Abstract
this article presents a scientific methodology for assessing and mitigating psychological and cognitive workload during pilot training, applicable to both ab initio and experienced airline pilots. It addresses the effects of mental overload, stress, and information saturation on pilot performance and decision-making. The study includes a modular training program developed for Airbus and Boeing flight operations, with clearly structured exercises focused on tolerance to overload, situational awareness, and multitasking under pressure. Cognitive load is measured using validated indicators such as the NASA-TLX index, heart rate variability (HRV), and the original CLI formula. The effectiveness of the method is confirmed through simulated training sessions involving student and professional pilots. Results demonstrate significant reductions in cognitive load and stress, along with improvements in flight accuracy and task performance. The method is recommended for integration into initial training programs and recurrent simulator sessions to strengthen resilience and prevent human factor–related incidents.
