Psychotechnologies of the sacred: the art of the Ancient East as a tool for constructing collective consciousness

Abstract

the article is devoted to the study of the art of the Ancient East as a complex system of psychological influence that purposefully shaped the collective consciousness of representatives of traditional cultures. The purpose of the study is to reconstruct the system of psychological functions of the art of the Ancient East, proving its role as a tool for the purposeful construction of collective consciousness. To achieve this goal, the tasks of reconstructing the socio-religious context, analyzing formalized canonical models as a system of psychological coding, systematizing psychological functions and establishing continuity with modern analytical psychology were solved. The research is based on an interdisciplinary approach combining methods of comparative historical, iconographic, semiotic and contextual analysis. The apparatus of K.G. Jung's analytical psychology is used as a theoretical basis. The key formal canonical principles of ancient Eastern art (hierarchical scale, sacred attributes, stability of iconographic techniques) are systematized, which are interpreted as a system of psychological coding. The complex of psychological functions of art is revealed and described: legitimization of power and social order, translation of moral and ethical norms, emotional regulation, sacred communication and formation of collective identity. The practical significance of the research lies in the possibility of applying the results in modern psychotherapy: the development of art therapy techniques, the use of identified mechanisms of psychological influence in pedagogy and social design, as well as the integration of ancient Eastern psychotechnologies into counseling psychological practice. A substantial continuity has been established between the psychotechnologies represented in ancient Eastern art and the concepts of modern analytical psychology, which confirms the universality of the basic mechanisms of the impact of visual images on the psyche.
