Abstract
The review examines the book by the Russian medievalist Alexey Borisovich Polyakov (1949–2020), dedicated to the history of Vietnam from the 10th to the beginning of the 15th century. The monograph is the result of research that its author conducted throughout his life: it describes in detail the process of founding the Vietnamese state after the era of inclusion in Chinese empires and states, the period of disunity, the rule of independent dynasties, and wars with the Mongols. This book outlines a milestone in the development of the Russian Vietnamese historical school associated with the name of Polyakov's mentor and research advisor Dega V. Deopik.
