Abstract
The paper is dedicated to the love story of Nguyen Trai (1380–1442), the famous Vietnamese statesman and poet, and Nguyen Thi Lo, one of his concubines, and the interpretation of their love in the story by Nguyen Huy Thiep. This story is very well known in Vietnam due to the both lovers’ tragic death.
Basing on the truly historical events and historical heroes the author in his literary fantasies emphasized Nguyen Trai’s solitude and his weakness as a poet in comparison with rational nature of politicians.
