Architecture is an artifact of eternity

Abstract

In view of the large-scale construction works now under way within Moscow boundaries, the architects and city planners are faced with demanding challenges of providing convenient road junctions, building esthetically appealing large scale housing projects, making efficient use of new building estates. That being said, Moscow is an ancient city, possessing unique traits that go back to the days of yore. Then again, as the Capital City Moscow has its peculiar character. N. I. Shumakov, People’s Architect of the Russian Federation, member of the International Union of Architects, member of the President’s Council on culture and art of the Russian Federation, has shared his views on how Moscow’s Capital status and historical heritage reflect upon the city’s architectural wellbeing. In his dedicated interview to our Herald the Head of Russia’s and Moscow’s architect Unions told his story of the city’s approach to the search of the balance between ingenuity and trueness to type in housing construction. “Strength, utility, and beauty” is an ancient Roman tenet that has withstood the test of time. To follow it one doesn’t have to be a genius. It’s enough to be professional in your chores and show true concern for people
