Problems of the UN functioning in modern conditions: challenges, contradictions and ways of reform

the scientific article is devoted to the study of the problems of the functioning of the United Nations in the 21st century, as well as the need to reform the United Nations using the example of its structural unit, the Security Council. The purpose of the study is to analyze the current problems of the functioning of the United Nations, as well as to identify possible ways to reform its activities. Materials and methods. The research used methods of comparative analysis and expert assessment aimed at studying the positions of legal scholars, representatives of different states, groups of states and international organizations on the issues of UN reform. Results and discussions. Analyzing the current problems faced by the United Nations, it can be concluded that the reform of the organization is a necessary measure for the international community. At the same time, the reform of the UN system should be carried out in accordance with the interests of all Member States. Conclusions. The revision of the mechanisms for the use of the veto, the expansion of the Council's membership and the improvement of the methods of interaction of the members are the primary measures. These measures can help strengthen respect for the principles of international law and the restraint of UN Member States regarding the use of military force to resolve inter-State conflicts.
