Translation competitions as a tool for analyzing the formation of translation competence: an erratological aspect

the article is devoted to the analysis of translations from German into Russian of the materials of two translation contests in order to identify typical errors and establish the reasons for their occurrence. The main content of the study is erratological analysis – the analysis of contexts containing negative asymmetry phenomena: errors in the transfer of cognitive information, inaccuracies and ambiguities. The considered examples are placed on the scale of negative asymmetry ‘Errors in communicating cognitive information – inaccuracies – ambiguities – formal violations’, from the maximum degree of severity to its minimum degree. The most identified errors in communicating cognitive information, which can be avoided by using bilingual dictionaries and reference books. As a result of the study, the author concludes that the errors are caused by a complex of reasons, among which are the use of online translators, ignoring the stage of pre- and post-translation analysis, visual range of the source text, ignorance of the basicignorance of the basic rules of text design, inattention and lack of motivation.
