Abstract
This paper examines the mental element of criminal offence in Singapore. The author describes four main types of fault known to common jurisdictions: intention, knowledge, rashness and negligence. The author argues that, the legal technique of transposing a detailed concept of fault into codified legislation can help reduce terminological uncertainty without violating the principle of word economy in text of the criminal law.
