Abstract

The authors propose the hypothesis that in the periods of autocracy in European tradition compensation of potential of its negative influence on culture is possible. Such compensation actualizes through the rise of humanistic orientation in arts. With all this going on humanistic trend in culture contributes to the processes of development of political process in the direction of polyarchy. However, the return to autocracy could not be excluded because of many internal and external factors of political situation. To verify the given hypothesis the authors analyze cases of Ancient Greece as well as Renaissance and dictatorships of ХХ centuries in Portugal and Haiti.
