The founder of the journal is the Federal State Budgetary Educational Institution of Higher Education "North Ossetian State University named after K.L. Khetagurov". Since 2000, the publishing house of the university has published, which gave the name to the journal, the annual interuniversity collection of scientific works "Current Issues in Philology and Pedagogical Linguistics". The collection published articles reflecting the latest scientific views, significant results and achievements of fundamental and theoretical and applied research in the field of philological sciences: language theory, comparative linguistics, cultural linguistics and psycholinguistics, cognitive and communicative linguistics, text linguistics, sociolinguistics, discourse studies, literary studies. and linguodidactics. In 2011, registration was carried out at the International Standard Serial Numbering Center with the assignment of ISSN 2079-6021 and the magazine "Current Issues in Philology and Pedagogical Linguistics" was published as a print media. In 2015, the journal began to be published 4 times a year.

Since December 28, 2018, the journal is included in the List of peer-reviewed scientific publications, in which the main scientific results of dissertations for the degree of candidate of sciences, for the degree of doctor of sciences must be published.
