Abstract
The possible membership of serous cavities of coelomic origin to the organs of the immune system is discussed. The participation of these serous cavities in the systematic regulation of inflammation and immunity is considered. The role of serous cavities under study in the pathogenesis of haemopietic tissue tumors, autoimmune diseases, and conditions that are manifestations of a “cytokine storm” is also discussed. The role of serous cavities of coelomic origin as potential therapeutic targets in these diseases and pathological conditions is considered.
