Abstract
В наступившем XXI веке проблема инфекционного эндокардита (ИЭ) сохраняет свою актуальность. Несмотря на активную разработку и широкое внедрение в клиническую практику новых антибактериальных препаратов и кардиохирургических технологий, ИЭ по-прежнему остается нозологической формой, характеризующейся нарастающей частотой и высокой летальностью.Рост числа пожилых больных с ИЭ многие авторы связывают в первую очередь с увеличением продолжительности жизни (в условиях России это положение применимо лишь отчасти), обусловленной улучшением социальных условий, доступностью высококвалифицированной медицинской помощи и т.д. В то же время у лиц старших возрастных категорий значительно чаще имеют место факторы, предрасполагающие к развитию ИЭ.
