Аннотация
В статье рассматривается одно из самых знаковых событий афроамериканской истории – Чарлстонский заговор рабов 1822 г. Акцентируется внимание на анализе причин и предпосылок указанного события, которые разделяются на 5 групп(политические, социокультурные, социально-экономические, демографические и личные).Формулируется вывод о невозможности отнесения заговора Денмарка Визи к типичным восстаниям рабов на Юге США. Источниковой базой исследования послужили материалы судебного разбирательства, свидетельства и газетные публикации того времени.
