The journal "The Caspian Region: Politics, Economics, Culture" was founded in 2003, the name of the journal has not changed.

From 2003 to 2018 inclusive, the Chief Editor of the journal was E.N. Moshchelkov, Doctor of Political Sciences, Professor, Professor of Lomonosov Moscow State University. Deputy editor-in-chief was P.L. Karabushchenko, Doctor of Philosophical Sciences, Professor, Professor of Astrakhan State University.

In 2019-2020, the Chief Editor of the journal was Professor P.L. Karabushchenko.

Since October 2020, the Chief Editor of the journal became S.V. Vinogradov, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor, Chief Researcher of the Center for the Study of the History of the Lower Volga Region of the Soviet Period, the deputy editor-in-chief became N.V. Grishin, Doctor of Political Sciences, Professor of St. Petersburg State University.
