Abstract

The epidemiological situation established in Russia makes it necessary to elaborate and implement innovative complex programs for the prevention of sexually transmitted infections (STI) in the increased behavioral risk groups. STI contamination considerably increases the probability of HIV transmission therefore interventions for the prevention of STI may be simultaneously considered as the potentially successful strategies of HIV infections. The authors conducted a pilot study among the visitors of venereological facilities within the framework of preparation for developing and making a behavioral intervention to reduce a risk for STI, including HIV. The main objective of the investigation was to study the specific features of sexual behavior among the persons who sought venereological advice and were at risk for sexually HIV contamination.
