Abstract
The experimentally obtained results for the transformation of graphite to diamond in the presence of nickel–manganese solvent (catalyst) depending on the crystallographic orientation of the initial graphite are analyzed. The principles of thermodynamics of irreversible processes developed by Onsager and theoretical constructions on the formation of a new phase developed by Zeldovich, are used. The appearance of the critical nucleus of diamond is considered as a result of graphite–diamond direct phase transition in a high-pressure chamber.
