Initiating Surface Streamers with a DC Negative Barrier Corona Discharge in Argon

Abstract

A negative DC corona excited by a metal tip above a surface covered with a dielectric material is studied experimentally. Raising the voltage above the dielectric surface results in pronounced surface discharges known as streamers. Constricted and diffusive forms of discharge are observed as well.
