Abstract
A theoretical model for determining the anisotropy of acousto-optic figures of merit of optically isotropic media is proposed. The conditions under which the acousto-optic figure of merit of cubic crystals reaches the maximum value are established. The quasi-orthogonal and collinear geometries of the acoustooptic interaction are considered in detail.
