Acoustic Methods

Methodological peculiarities of using SH- and Lamb waves when assessing the anisotropy of properties of flats

Murav’eva O., Murav’ev V.

Аннотация

The sensitivity of Lamb waves and SH-waves to changes in elastic properties has been studied in different parts of dispersion curves. We demonstrate methodological peculiarities of using these waves for assessing the anisotropy of sheet iron with regard to the selection of frequency range and wave mode and an allowance for the scale factor of anisotropy. Distinctive features of the suggested technique are presented.

An electromagnetic-acoustic method for studying stress-strain states of rails

Murav’ev V., Volkova L., Platunov A., Kulikov V.

Аннотация

Experimental results of measuring mechanical stresses in R65 rails with the use of the acoustic elasticity effect and an electromagnetic-acoustic method for the input-reception of shear waves are presented. Results of modeling compressive stresses in a rail segment are provided. The experimental results are compared with theoretical estimates for stresses that are induced in a restrained rail by the temperature action. The results of monitoring residual stresses in rails are described for a segment of continuous welded rails.

On a defect identification method based on monitoring the structure and peculiarities of surface wave fields

Bocharova O., Sedov A., Andzhikovich I., Kalinchuk V.

Аннотация

A special technique is proposed for processing detected signals. The technique uses an adjustable orthonormal basis and makes it possible to effectively identify defects by monitoring the structure and peculiarities of surface wave fields.

Peculiarities of ultrasonic pulsed immersion testing of blanks of railway axles

Poznyakova M., Suchkov G., Petrishchev O.

Аннотация

Research has been conducted and methods have been developed for revealing small-sized flaws in blanks of railway axles by ultrasonic immersion testing technique. It has been established that the use of probing pulse packets significantly improves the sensitivity of testing.

On the principles of optimizing the technologies of acoustic-emission strength control of industrial objects

Nosov V.

Аннотация

Expansion of the application domain and heightened requirements for the accuracy of acoustic-emission (AE) testing have necessitated the optimization of AE-based nondestructive strength-testing techniques. Current trends in the development of these techniques are provided and general principles for improving their efficiency are stated. Examples of the implementations of AE testing on various objects are illustrated.

Magnetic Methods

Exact solution of one problem of magnetostatics in bipolar coordinates (continued)

Dyakin V., Kudryashova O., Raevskii V.

Аннотация

An exact solution for a linear problem of magnetostatics about an infinite cylinder with an infinite noncoaxial cylindrical flaw has been derived in the system of plane bipolar coordinates under the condition that external magnetizing field remains unchanged along the length axis of this model body. The solution has been tested for theoretical veracity and compared with the solution of a similar problem that was obtained by one semianalytic method [2]. For a particular problem about a halfspace with an infinite cylindrical flaw, an exact solution has been obtained and compared with results that were achieved by other methods. The mismatch between the solution of the problem about a halfspace and the solution of the problem with passage to the limit of a half-space has been considered. An algorithm is described for solving the inverse problem of separate determination of flaw depth and dimensions.

Studying the dependence of flaw-induced magnetic field on the parameters of magnetizing device

Novikov I., Pokrovskii A.

Аннотация

The topography of magnetic fields has been studied for different magnetizing conditions. Recommendations are given for the placement of electromagnet poles with respect to the test object. The relationship between magnetic-field strength and the gap between electromagnet poles and the test object is estimated. The distribution of magnetic-field strength above a flaw is given; the possibility of its use in matrix transducers is shown.

Optical Methods

A dedicated optical system for the quality inspection of cylindrical surfaces

Zav’yalov P., Finogenov L., Vlasov E.

Аннотация

Calculations of a dedicated optical system for the quality inspection of cylindrical surfaces are presented. Peculiarities of imaging a cylindrical surface by means of specially enhanced inherent field curvature are considered. Results of using the system for the inspection of quality of fuel pellets are provided.
