Calculating the energy transmission factor for a couplant layer with nonuniform thickness

Michurov A.V., Sokolkin A.V.

Abstract

The energy transmission factor of a layer of couplant with nonuniform thickness has been calculated for a PET arbitrarily placed with respect to an arbitrarily shaped curved entry surface. The calculation results have been approximated for toroidal, spherical, and cylindrical surfaces. It is shown that in most cases of testing small-diameter articles, partial loss of acoustical contact can be disregarded when calculating the energy transmission factor.

Connection between the properties of 40kh-steel bar stock and the speed of bulk and rayleigh waves

Murav’ev V.V., Murav’eva O.V., Petrov K.V.

Abstract

Results of the research of dependence between the structural states of 40Kh-steel bar samples obtained with different modes of thermal processing and the velocity of longitudinal, transverse, and Rayleigh waves are presented. The mirror-shadow multiple reflection method with the use of dedicated pass-through and attachable electromagnetic–acoustic transducers was employed. A connection between the wave velocity and the ultimate strength, yield point, plasticity, and rigidity of the examined samples is demonstrated. Dependences of the acoustic wave velocity on mechanical tensile stresses are presented. The acoustoelastic coefficients are determined.

An eddy-current gauge for measuring the wall thickness of light-alloy drill pipes

Goldstein A.E., Belyankov V.Y.

Abstract

The operating principle and design of an eddy-current transducer intended for in-service measurement of the wall thickness of light-alloy drill pipes are described. The block diagram and algorithm of conversion are provided for measurement-data signals from the eddy-current thickness gauge. The main technical specs are listed for a thickness gauge prototype.
